About Me

Elderly man with glasses speaking in a casual setting.

My background

I moved to Hallowell more than four decades ago with my wife Janet and our first son because we were looking for somewhere quiet, safe, and rooted in community to raise our family. We found that here. We raised our two sons here, built relationships with our neighbors, and put down roots. I’ve watched this area change over time, but what hasn’t changed for me is the importance of looking out for one another. That’s how I was raised, and it’s how I’ve lived my life—checking in on neighbors, helping when someone’s in trouble, and doing what I can to make sure people are okay.

I grew up in a working family here in Maine, where money was tight but values were strong. My parents taught me that you don’t need wealth to have a meaningful life, you need honesty, hard work, and a sense of responsibility to others. Those lessons stayed with me through every stage of my life, from my time in the Army National Guard, where I learned the importance of teamwork and leadership, to caring for my father as he aged, navigating the realities of healthcare, home care, and the challenges families face when support systems fall short.

I spent more than 42 years working for the Maine Service Employees Association, starting in a clerical role and eventually serving in leadership. Over that time, I worked closely with state budgets, negotiated for fair wages and benefits, and focused on how decisions made in Augusta affect real people. I’ve sat at the table with opposing sides and helped find common ground. I’ve dug into the details to understand what policies actually do, not just what they’re supposed to do. And I’ve spent years advocating for workers, retirees, and families who rely on state services.

I’m running for the Legislature because I’ve seen firsthand that too often, decisions are made without a full understanding of how they impact the people who depend on them. Workers, retirees, and the systems that support them are essential to how government functions, but their realities are often overlooked. I want to bring that understanding into the room—to make sure policies are grounded in real experience, not just theory.

The issues I care about are straightforward because they come directly from what I’ve lived and what I’ve seen. Retirees need real support, especially when it comes to healthcare and the ability to stay in their homes as they age. Right now, services like personal care assistance are underfunded, and the people doing that work are underpaid. That’s not sustainable, either for workers or for the people who depend on them. We need to do better.

I also believe strongly in supporting workers by making sure wages, benefits, and retirement systems are strong enough to attract and retain the people who keep our state running. The same goes for education. If we want strong schools, we need to invest in teachers—not just in theory, but in real compensation and long-term stability. Healthcare and prescription drug costs are another area where too many people are being left behind, and the state needs to take a more active role in finding solutions.

And here in Hallowell, we’re dealing with real environmental challenges—PFAS contamination in our public water supply and arsenic in private wells. The state has a responsibility to protect our natural resources and prevent this kind of harm from happening in the first place.

At the end of the day, I’m running for the same reason I’ve done the work I’ve done my entire life: to help people. I bring experience, a willingness to listen, and the ability to work with others to get things done. I’m direct and honest about where I stand, and I won’t stop pushing until we find real solutions.

If you’re looking for someone who understands how state government actually works, who knows how to bring people together, and who will stay focused on the real impact of decisions on everyday Mainers, I’m asking for your vote.
