I’ve spent over four decades supporting workers, and I’ve seen firsthand how gaps in pay, benefits, and working conditions affect not just the workers, but the services ALL Mainers rely on. We need to make sure public sector jobs are competitive so we can recruit and retain the people who keep our state running. That means fair wages, strong benefits, and respect for the work they do.
I believe retirees deserve to live with dignity and independence. Too many people who have worked their whole lives struggle to access the care they need, especially when it comes to staying in their homes. Personal care services are underfunded, and the workers providing that care are underpaid. We need to strengthen these systems so people can age safely and affordably in their communities.
If we want strong schools, we need to support the people who make them work. That means paying teachers fairly, creating safe and supportive learning environments, and ensuring long-term stability in retirement systems. Attracting and keeping good teachers is essential to giving our kids the education they deserve.
Healthcare and prescription drug costs are putting real pressure on Maine families, especially those on fixed incomes. These costs keep rising while access becomes more limited. The state needs to take a more active role in finding practical solutions that make care more affordable and accessible for everyone.
In Hallowell and across Maine, we’re dealing with serious threats to our water from PFAS and other contaminants. I’ve seen how this affects families directly. The state needs to do more to prevent environmental damage, hold polluters accountable, and ensure clean, safe drinking water for our communities.
Our economy depends on small businesses, but too many face barriers just getting started. I believe the state should be doing more to support them through targeted tax relief and smart policies that encourage growth. Strong small businesses mean more jobs, stronger communities, and a healthier economy overall.
